Notice of Call for Applications for Industrial-Commercial Representative Member on the Halton-Hamilton Source Protection Committee

The Halton-Hamilton source protection region invites eligible candidates to fill one vacancy on the multi-stakeholder Halton-Hamilton Source Protection Committee, to represent the industrial-commercial sector. If you are collaborative, solutions oriented, and have an interest in local watersheds and drinking water matters, please submit your application by Monday August 10, 2020, to sourceprotection@hrca.on.ca or fax to (905) 336-0921.

The Halton-Hamilton source protection region is comprised of the areas of Halton Region and Hamilton Region Conservation Authorities.  A Source Protection Committee was established in accordance with the Clean Water Act, 2006 and has developed a locally driven, science-based source protection plan that aims to reduce the risk of contamination and overuse of the sources of our drinking water. 

The role of the Source Protection Committee is to guide the review and updating of the source protection plan using a science-based approach and consider relevant information.  The Source Protection Committee is comprised of nine members and the Chair. The members act as liaisons for their sectors, and regularly attend committee and public meetings. The member composition is as follows:

  • 3 members representing municipalities
  • 2 members representing the agricultural sector
  • 1 member representing industrial/commercial sector
  • 3 members representing the public interest at large – focused on environment and health.

This year, we commemorate 20 years since the Walkerton drinking water tragedy happened in Ontario. Through the Clean Water Act and other legislation, vast improvements have been made in protecting drinking water in Ontario, and our work continues. Join the Halton-Hamilton Source Protection Committee to help protect our precious drinking water sources for present and future generations.
